Climbing Illimani


The Illimani mountain, symbol of the department of La Paz and the highest mountain of the same. Undoubtedly there are many articles dedicated to this mountain considered as the guardian of the city, the mountain itself has many peaks that are permanently covered with snow, three of them are above 6,000 m and the highest one reaches an amazing altitude of 6,438 m. This mountain is reserved for determined mountain conquerors, as it is a technical and very demanding climb.

Day 1.

Departure from La Paz by vehicle to a small town called Pinaya, the trip will be between 3 to 4 hours, from there we start the 3 hour hike to Puente Roto, the base camp of Illimani.

Day 2.

a five-hour hike through a trail and rocks to the high camp called “Nido del Condor” at 5,550 m. where we will prepare for the night.

Day 3.

Early departure through glacier terrain to reach our objective, the South of Illimani (6,438 m).
We then return to high camp, pick up camp and continue to base camp.

Day 4.

Regreso a la Estancia Pinaya donde nuestro vehículo estará esperando, y regreso a La Paz.
