Chacaltaya es ampliamente conocida por haber sido en su día la pista de esquí más alta del mundo y la más cercana al ecuador. El esquí comenzó aquí en la década de 1940, lo que la convierte en un hito histórico en el alpinismo andino y los deportes de invierno. We leave the city from your hotel in La Paz and head to Alto-Milluni, where we will make our first stop to enjoy views of Huayna Potosí and Lake Titicaca. The journey takes approximately 1-2 hours by car. The road is rough in some places, but there is nothing to worry about.
We will arrive at the refuge at 5,300 meters by car, where we will see what was once the highest ski slope in the world and the city of El Alto and its plain. We will continue climbing to one of its peaks to enjoy a panoramic view of Huayna Potosí and part of the Cordillera Real, and then continue to its second peak.
Finally, we return to the refuge to take the vehicle back to the city.
